Season Opener at The Head of the Riverfront Regatta
The Huskies began their Fall 2019 season at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta, in Hartford Connecticut.
RACE RESULTS
UConn entered two boats in the Men’s Open 8+. The A boat finished 4th in the race, just 30 seconds behind 1st place Wesleyan University. The B boat narrowly beat out Tufts University for a 9th place finish.
In a last minute addition, the Huskies entered a Men’s Novice 8+. For many of the Novices, this was the first race of their rowing career. In a race to the wire, the Huskies crossed the finish line in 17:24.5, earning them a gold medal.
Three hours later, many of the athletes who raced in the Open 8+ got back on the water for the Men’s Open 4+. The three Varsity Fours placed 5th, 6th, and 7th in a race that featured multiple boats from Palm Beach RA, Trinity College, and URI.
The final race of the day at Head of the Riverfront is the Men’s Collegiate Alumni 8+. Men’s Crew had nine alumni, who span multiple decades, come to Hartford to race in this event against URI. They finished second.
CHRISTENING
This past spring, UConn Men’s Crew used the funds raised in the 2019 Ignite Fundraiser to purchase a new Vespoli High Performance 8+. To celebrate this exciting purchase, a christening was arranged at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta.
In an event attended by parents, alumni, athletes, and UConn President Thomas C. Katsouleas, the “Legacy” was christened. The Huskies would like to thank everyone who attended the event, and also those whose generous donations made it possible.
