Strong Showing at ACRA 2019 Championships
To culminate a long and successful season of racing for The University of Connecticut, 26 student-athletes made the trip to Gainseville, Georgia for the ACRA 2019 Championship Regatta.
The 1V8+ blazed to a 6:16.440 in their Heat, second to only Michigan. This earned them a spot in Saturday’s Semi-Finals. From here, the 1V8+ placed fourth, advancing to the Grand Finals on Sunday. In an unprecedented move for UConn Men’s Crew, the First Varsity Eight placed 8th out of 31 boats, besting their previous year’s placement by several spots.
The Lightweight Varsity 4+ placed third in their heat, beating out Virginia, UCLA, and Texas. Advancing to the Grand Finals, they ultimately placed 7th in a loaded field.
The 2X placed 4th in their heat, and proceeded to Repechage’s later that day. Here, the 2X finished behind UCLA and ahead of Emory, Boston College, and Kansas State. This earned them a spot in C final, finishing first with open water on the rest of the field.
The Lightweight Novice 4+ placed second in their Saturday Prelim, and ultimately finished 7th in their Sunday Final.
The Heavyweight Novice 4+ raced to a 4th place finish in their Saturday heat, clinching a spot in Sunday’s Grand Final. From here the Novice 4+ finished 7th , less than a second behind Michigan State.
This was the largest and most competitive group of athletes in program history. UCMC could not be prouder, and seeks to carry this momentum to the Fall 2019 season.
